It was almost as difficult to accept a natural explanation as a su pernatural explanation.

Focus Magic's 3% crit is worth far more than going fire for Ignite on Brain Freeze procs, and once you're there the 6 yards of extra range on sheeps is handy utility--far more useful than any of the unpurchased Frost talents, as sad as that is to me as a die-hard frost fan.

Note this treats Fingers of Frost as basically just a passive 13.88% crit increase. That's all it amounts to when Frozen Ice Lances become lower dps than *Unfrozen* Frostbolts somewhere in the middle of T7 gear farming. Without Deep Freeze (which at least scaled well enough to remain useful for another couple of tiers), there's no reason to Shatter combo. Ever. You're better off just keeping on Frostbolting. Even solo. The trash will die faster (unless its health is such that one ice lance will finish it).

Brain Freeze is now the only change to Frost's raiding play_style_ from TBC, and given 3/5 Clearcasting on the way to Focus Magic and Frost's heavy mana efficiency as it is, even that talent becomes optional.

Even if Frost's dps is balanced around its current situation, it's an incredibly boring spec to play. It loses all its solo flavor and sees functionally no change in raids compared to TBC whatsoever. Additionally, dps will definitely be balanced around 100% elemental uptime, and the elemental appears to still be gaining no AoE survival utility, meaning frost is left in the dust in most fights, dps balance or no.

Until today, I had hope. Now, for the first time, I'm wishing I had an alt leveled to 70, because I'm not sure if I'm interested in playing my mage in WotLK. We'll see if the 6 weeks remaining change anything or if Blizzard realizes just how fully they neutered the fun of Frost. I guess I understand the Glyph now; Frost really is just Fire with a blue instead of red motif now. The chills and freezes no longer particularly matter in PvE.
